Massage

Massage therapy is applied pressure to soft body tissues (muscles, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) using a variety of techniques such as long gentle strokes or deeply applied pressure. The massage therapist uses unscented, hypoallergenic lotions and oils that nourish the skin and hydrate the muscles. The purpose of massage is to relax the tissue, increase the flow of blood and oxygen and decrease pain.

Studies of the benefits of massage therapy demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension. Other benefits of massage therapy include relief from:

  • Anxiety
  • Digestive disorders
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches
  • Insomnia related to stress
  • Myofascial pain syndrome
  • Soft tissue strains or injuries
  • Sports injuries
